Fixed my monitor: why soldering skills are useful.

So, my right monitor is about... 6 years old give or take a few months. It's had some issues in the past couple of months with not wanting to turn on, Friday it went on the fritz hardcore and was having great difficulty getting it to power on from sleep, and especially from off. Today I came home and it absolutely would not power on. So what's a guy to do? Well, open it up of course! 2 of the 1000uf capacitors on the power supply had popped, one apparently long ago as it was literally dust, the other recently as it was quite gooey. While I didn't have any 1000uf's at 10v I did have some at 16v, so I swapped them out. Man oh man, I've never seen the monitor power up this fast, not even when it was new. Ahhh time spent figuring out how to get the frame off, 15 minutes, time to replace and reassemble about 10 minutes. So 25 minutes of my time, saved me the 100ish bucks I would have spent replacing it. Ahhh see kids, learning to solder and keeping common components around in your parts bin IS QUITE USEFUL!

Ahem

Whatever douchebag at Wishard stole my grandmothers credit cards, medical cards, drivers license, checkbook, prescription cards, and cash while she was getting tests and out of her room. I'm going to fucking find you if you try to use a single one. And when I do, you'll wish you were in an Egyptian prison being tortured by someone with a scrap of humanity

NASA Head Charles Bolden Warns Of Attack From 'Outside Forces'

So one of the top brass at NASA did a family/emergency preparedness talk the other day to all NASA personnel… he said things like "We are the only agency in the federal government that's responsible for the safety and well being of not only people here on Earth but uh off this planet” (not on this world and at the space station, on and off this planet)… "think about attacks like 9/11 from outside forces" note 'outside forces' not terrorists, ... mind you, it could be that this guy is a former Marine… but ehhhhh I say Alien Invasion!

If I ever go missing

If ever goes missing, don't look for me. if I don't update facebook/twitter, or don't reply to emails for more than a week, consider me dead. If I don't do these things for a month, I am dead, do not waste time mourning me, move on with your lives. Do not waste 10's of thousands of people's time and effort, do not waste absurd amounts of money looking for me, do not plaster the news and internet with my face and pleas for help finding me. For I'm only a human, 1 in billions, I am not Lauren Spierer magical deity that must be found at all costs, I put my pants on the same way as the next person.

Just wow. That's all I have to say. Wow.

Thanks to the trillions of dollars that the Chinese have made flooding our shores with cheap products, China is now in a position of tremendous economic power. So what is China going to do with all of that money? One thing that they have decided to do is to buy up pieces of the United States and set up "special economic zones" inside our country from which they can continue to extend their economic domination. One of these "special economic zones" would be just south of Boise, Idaho and the Idaho government is eager to give it to them. China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach for short) plans to construct a "technology zone" south of Boise Airport which would ultimately be up to 50 square miles in size. The Chinese Communist Party is the majority owner of Sinomach, so the 10,000 to 30,000 acre "self-sustaining city" that is being planned would essentially belong to the Chinese government. The planned "self-sustaining city" in Idaho would include manufacturing facilities, warehouses, retail centers and large numbers of homes for Chinese workers. Basically it would be a slice of communist China dropped right into the middle of the United States.

According to the Idaho Statesman, the idea would be to build a self-contained city with all services included. It would be modeled after the "special economic zones" that currently exist in China.
