Trying Hansen's Original Cola

February 23, 2021 by Ryan Mercer in YouTube

Video subtitles:

Hey YouTube, we're back here today in the drink series, um, in another video I tried, uh, a Hansen's Soda or, well, not their soda but one of the Hansen's drinks. This is Hansen's cane soda original cola made with real cane sugar caffeine-free, gluten-free, sodium-free, 160 calories per can, zero grams of total fat, zero milligrams of sodium, 41 grams of carbohydrates which includes 40 grams of added sugar, good night that's a lot of sugar, that's a lot added sugar so we know it's going to be sweet, not a significant source of yada yada, carbonated filtered water, cane sugar, caramel color, citric acid, natural flavors, and tartaric acid. That almost sounds like, uh, some science fiction name, oh Tatarik come here, come hither Tartark we must defeat the evil Growbonds. Anyway, let's read here for more information they got a QR code because I don't think anyone actually scans QR codes but everyone puts them on things whatever "at Hansen's we're all about crafting remarkable flavors from simple ingredients real cane sugar, of course," that's what it says that's not me "hey we began in California so for us nothing is too bold or unconventional always free from artificial flavors sodium caffeine this is what original tastes like", non-GMO project verified, naturally flavored, and other natural flavors.

So yeah, let's get Mr. Moose over here, and get our little can crack, just like a normal cam get some in the Moose3

That's good, I'm gonna slurp the can sorry, it just bothers me when there's like a bead of liquid on a can. So it, it looks like most colas, um, I know you guys can't see this very well but you know just your normal weird brown that you get with Pepsi or Coke or RC Cola or whatever.

It smells like a soda, it smells like just a generic store brand soda. Let's try it.

Yeah, oh yeah, you can taste the sweetness in that wow wow woooowww you know who is that, Owen Wilson? Wowwww.

So aside from being extremely sweet, I don't really have a lot of added sugar so these sweet sodas might skew my perception a little, it, uh yeah, it just tastes like a generic cola. Doesn't taste like Pepsi, doesn't taste like Coke, it doesn't really taste like RC maybe, like uh, I've had generic soda and so on, I know there's like Sam's Cola or something and then like K's Cola whatever, I think Kroger had a house brand, it kind of tastes like those but uh I am tasting like a cheap vitamin C tablet kind of flavor and no, no, no, no I know, it reminds me of, I was going to say that it's probably the citric acid but what it reminds me of, is uh, they're candies they're called Bottle Caps they, they kind of changed over the years but they used to just be like chalky looking wafer discs that looked like a bottle cap and now, I think like Nestle bought Wonka or whatever years ago, and they're kind of like these little domed, I don't know they still taste the same but they look different, but that's what it tastes like. It has that, that flavor, and I'm betting that they're using citric acid in that candy or something as a binder just as a cheap, cheap binder and there's definitely that citric acid taste there like cheap vitamin C.

Yeah, yeah, that's way too much sugar for my liking. Um, but no, I, I would drink that if, if I wasn't too worried about consuming sugar. You know, I'm not the optimum specimen of human health. I do have a gut as I'm sure you can see with my shirt all folded up, and I dress in layers to hide this, and you know I've got male side-bosom so you know, I am trying to be mindful of the sugar and stuff so I can lose some weight and not die before I turn 40. If they made a diet version of this which, I know I did see diet versions of their sodas at Fresh Thyme when I purchased this a little six-pack or whatever, I would probably give it a try, I might try to find some when I go to the grocery later today

I would be interested to see if they had a diet cola and if it did taste like anything remotely in the universe of Diet Coke. I'm a hardcore fan of Diet Coke. Last year I was drinking two or three of them a day, the not the 20-ounce bottles but the other plastic bottles, I think they're 16 ounces maybe 14, 16, something like that, and then I've, I've mostly quit aside from this drink review series. I've had I think three diet cokes and it's February 13th as I record this so yeah, trying to cut those out just like of course sugar soda, but I, I would be curious if they had a diet version of this and I would love to try it. Um, I'll keep an eye out for that and you may see that in the channel soon. Again, we just talked about Hansen's cane soda original cola, um, I'm gonna have another little drink of it here.

It really does have like a, it reminds me of the bottle caps, of the just cola flavored bottle caps. I mean they had other flavors in there but that's that's, that's what it reminds me of, and now I kind of really want some of those, those candies, but the, the old ones and not the weird little domed ones. Yeah, yeah check it out, um, it seems like they're in a lot of groceries. I got this one Fresh Thyme, as I said, you might have a Fresh Thyme where you are, you might not just look about Hansen's cane soda. Yeah, I'm gonna wrap it up there. Like, comment, subscribe, check out some other videos, I believe there's another one of these somewhere in the channel, I'll try to remember to link it when I'm editing this. Patreon down below too. You know, have fun, try some sodas, try some foods, uh enjoy life a little bit, do it in moderation. I'll see you guys next time!

Trying Hansen's Cane Soda Root Beer

February 16, 2021 by Ryan Mercer in YouTube

Video subtitles:

Hey YouTube, what's going on? Right out of the gate I want to apologize if you hear the heat going, it is very cold outside, we are well below freezing it's pretty much turning on every few minutes, so it's kind of hard to film today. We're going to be doing this Hanson's cane soda naturally flavored, and other natural flavors root beer

This is just like a generic kind of soda it comes in a little I think six-packs maybe four-packs, little cardboard deals, I think it's four-packs, sorry for not knowing this, I bought a lot of sodas recently for this review series on drink reviews.

At Hanson's we're all about crafting remarkable flavor from simple ingredients. real cane sugar, of course, hey we began in California so for us, nothing is too bold or unconventional, always free from artificial flavors, sodium, caffeine. This is what organic tastes like it is a non-GMO project verified.

Made with real cane sugar, caffeine-free, gluten-free, sodium-free. It's 160 calories in one can, zero fat, zero sodium, 41 grams of carbs, which includes 41 grams of added sugars, so again all of your flavor and this like many of the other drink reviews I've been doing all your calories come from pure sugar, not something great but as a treat sure. I would never drink these regularly even if I loved them, uh if I was going to drink one regularly I would probably drink the Olipop which I've done a previous video on one of the flavors probably be another one coming soon if there wasn't already at this point. Don't know what order I'm going to release these videos in but I do have the root beer from Olipop and I have tried it, and it is good, and I'm going to do a video on it if it's not up already. If I was going to regularly drink soda so I'd drink those because they're very low calorie and they have a lot of fiber added and they're expensive so it stays a treat and not a common thing. These, I mean, 41 grams of added sugar. You're basically drinking diabetes in a can, I'm sure it tastes lovely, it may or may not, but you know clearly someone enjoys it because they keep making it and if you drink this stuff in moderation great, but I would never advocate drinking this stuff regularly. I know this is a drink review series but uh just, just, moderation people, moderation, um a lot of people have a lot of liquid calories with this stuff, I'm preaching now you don't care so let's get on with it.

You know, the standard can sound a lot of carbonation coming out let's get some here Mr. Moose.

Definitely has a decent color for a root beer.

Smells more like root beer than, um, another one I tried which you've probably seen the video for at this point.

This definitely smells like IBC. or Dog and Suds, or Barq's root beer. It has a very classic root beer scent which is promising.

Oh yeah, that's good, it's just generic root beer. I'm not sure that's what they were going for but that's it's just generic root beer flavor.

It's, um, it's definitely not stronger than, um, a typical root beer. If anything it's a little more mellow, it doesn't have that like harsh bite that some root beers have. I think in a float this would probably get watered down a lot in flavor by whatever ice cream you're using, if you're using, you know, just vanilla or vanilla bean I think it would really take away from the flavor of this. Obviously, you have to try that yourself but definitely not what I would go for for a float based on the, uh, the drink itself, it's um, you can definitely feel the sugar in it though. I'm getting that fuzzy tongue and the, uh, the tooth film right away.

Yeah, if you have Hanson's anywhere near you definitely worth trying, um, you do have to buy like I said either four or six in a little case but it was, it was pretty cheap. I think I paid two or three dollars for four or six cans so very cost-competitive. Sorry for those of you that don't like the sound, I'm going to slurp the can, it just bothers me when there's that liquid floating around.

Yeah, that was Hansen's cane soda, 160 calories of sugar from presumably sugar cane.

Yeah, sorry, I...I love root beer. I grew up next to a drive-in restaurant called Mug'N'Bun which has been in Indianapolis, it's in the Speedway area, like right on the edge of Speedway, it's been there for probably 75 or 80 years at this point, last I knew it was on its third or fourth owner in that period and they make their own root beer and it is so good and it just takes me into childhood so I love trying root beers and when they get close to that i just get happy because I'm taken back to the mid and early 90s when things were great and I was first discovering the internet and there were a bunch of fun movies that I've now watched hundreds, if not thousands, of times or at least listened to them that many times. Root beer is magical it's, it's so fun, and it's something you can make at home if you really wanted to. I might do that eventually try making some root beer, um, I imagine I would never make anything even as good as this but it could be fun.

Yeah, that was Hansen's root beer. Thanks for stopping by. Like, comment, subscribe, tell me you hate me, say you hate when I do this pitcher thing, remind me that I need to lose some weight because I definitely do, I've got a bit, a bunch of fat rolls there, the sugary soda's probably not helping. I'm not going to finish this, it will go down the drain and I'll save the remaining ones of this as a special treat. Yeah, see you guys next time!
