Starlink Mini Roam is SpaceX’s compact, portable version of the well-known Starlink satellite internet system. Designed for travelers, overlanders, RV owners, and anyone who spends time far away from traditional infrastructure, the Mini brings high-speed internet access to areas where cell service is nonexistent.

My Real-World Test in the Desert

To see if Starlink Mini could truly handle rugged, real-world conditions, I took it deep into the desert where there was zero cell coverage.

  • Setup: No mount required—I literally just set it on top of my SUV, and it locked onto satellites quickly. Out of curiosity, I even placed it on the dashboard inside the vehicle, and it still managed to connect.

  • Performance: Speeds were strong enough for browsing, streaming, and even light remote work without major hiccups.

  • Mobility: Being able to pick it up, set it down, and move it between my SUV and camp made it extremely convenient.

This test really highlighted what makes Starlink Mini Roam valuable—true connectivity where it simply wasn’t possible before.

  • Overlanders and van lifers: Stay connected while exploring the backcountry.

  • Remote workers: Bring your office to the mountains, desert, or forest.

I Got to Tour the Ultrahuman Factory in Texas — Here’s What Blew Me Away

A few months back (okay, like 8 or 9, I’m terrible with time), I picked up a fitness ring from a company called Ultrahuman, and I’ve worn it literally every day since. No joke. Out of all the smart rings I’ve tried (and I’ve tried a bunch), this is the only one that stuck.

Fast forward to just recently, and I got the chance to actually visit their new factory in Plano, Texas. Yup, I packed my bags, hopped on a plane, and went behind the scenes to see how these things are made. Spoiler alert: it was awesome.

Why a Factory Tour?

Honestly, I almost didn’t go. I’m not big on traveling, especially when it wrecks my sleep. But my wife gave me the nudge, and I’m glad she did. As soon as I landed and started chatting with other creators over brunch, I knew this was going to be a good trip.

I’ve always liked seeing how stuff gets made. There’s something about walking through a working factory, hearing the machines, seeing the process, and watching real people doing real work that just hits differently.

Made in the USA? Heck Yeah.

So here’s the cool part: Ultrahuman is now making a bunch of their rings right here in the U.S.. Plano, TX to be exact. They opened up this facility to help meet U.S. demand, and they’re already cranking out a solid chunk of their orders from there.

And I’ve gotta say, it was wild seeing how much of the process is still done by hand. I was expecting robots and conveyor belts everywhere, but nope. The rings are so small and precise (especially that flexible PCB inside), a lot of the assembly has to be done manually. It’s super detail-oriented work.

Nerd Stuff I Loved

They walked us through the entire production line. We saw solder mask machines, component placers, inspection stations, casting trays, X-rays (for checking solder joints!), and even firmware flashing. It was like nerd heaven.

What stood out to me most was how clean and organized everything was. Each station had a purpose. Everything flowed. It was like watching a very quiet, very focused dance.

Also, shoutout to some of the other creators there, a few of them got way better shots than I did (I was dragging from lack of sleep), so I borrowed a couple of their clips for my video. Teamwork, baby.

Okay, But Is the Ring Actually Good?

Yup. Like I said, I’ve worn this ring for months. It tracks sleep, recovery, activity, and a bunch of other metrics. It’s comfortable, it doesn’t get in the way, and it just works. I’ve tried other smart rings and always ended up ditching them — but this one stuck.

And now that I’ve seen how it’s made (and met the people behind it), I like it even more.

Food, Vibes, and Good People

Outside the factory, the trip itself was just good vibes. We had meals together (yes, I included some food footage, I’m not a monster), visited a wellness center with infrared saunas and cold plunges, and talked a LOT of shop. Met some awesome folks, had deep convos about tech and health and even oscilloscopes, and left feeling super inspired.

Seriously, this trip reminded me of what I want my channel to be. I think factory tours might become a thing for me. If you’re in Indiana or southern Utah/northern Arizona and have a cool manufacturing setup then hit me up!

Want to Try the Ring?

If you’re thinking about picking one up, I’ve got a little hookup for you:

👈 Use code RYA10 for 10% off

That’s my affiliate link, so yeah, it supports the channel. But more importantly, I really do stand behind this ring. I use it daily, and I’ve actually turned down sponsored content for products I didn’t like. This isn’t one of those cases.

TL;DR: I toured the Ultrahuman smart ring factory in Plano, TX. It’s made in America, it’s incredibly well-built, and the trip gave me a whole new appreciation for the tech. The ring rocks, the food was awesome, and I’m more excited than ever about making content like this.

Stay tuned and maybe check out the ring if you're in the market for one. You might love it as much as I do.
