Oh man… they’ve now found a way to keep your child from getting mitochondrial related diseases passed on from you via an invetro fertilization method…
You end up having 2 mothers and 1 father. They fertilize 2 eggs, one from each woman, then do some petri dish magic and replace those mitochondrial genes that cause the diseases to be passed on with the other woman’s… they are currently doing it with Rhesus Macaques…
What’s the News: Babies with three parents and fewer genetic diseases might soon be possible: A UK national health panel has found that techniques for swapping chromosomes between eggs so offspring don’t inherit disease-causing mutations from their mother’s mitochondria are not dangerous. The company’s general manager, Milind Dukle, told India’s Business Standard newspaper: “We are not getting many orders now.” Update: Gawker is reporting that there are still manufacturers in China, Japan and Indonesia making typewriters.
